Compositing Lead

Abyss Digital is looking for a hands-on Compositing Lead Artist to define and lead the visual and technical standard of our compositing department.

This role combines two key responsibilities:

  • Senior-level shot execution — building master shots and defining the reference compositing look for each project
  • Department leadership — guiding and supervising compositing artists to consistently match that standard across all shots

We are looking for someone who is both a strong senior artist and a confident leader — capable of setting the creative benchmark while ensuring precision, efficiency, and clear communication across teams.

We are scaling our Warsaw unit to support growing international demand. This role will directly define the compositing standard of Abyss Digital.

Responsibilities

Create master shots that establish the visual and technical direction of each project

Define compositing workflows and quality standards

Lead the compositing department across all project phases

Supervise, mentor, and support compositing artists

Distribute tasks based on shot complexity and team capacity

Ensure seamless CG/FX integration and photorealistic execution

Conduct final quality control on all compositing output

Coordinate closely with CG, FX, and production teams

Maintain structured workflows and clear reporting to production

Requirements

5+ years experience as Senior Compositing Artist or Compositing Supervisor in high-end VFX or commercial studios

Proven experience leading compositing teams on complex projects

Advanced knowledge of Nuke (industry standard required)

Strong understanding of: Multi-pass CG integration Keying, roto, cleanup, paint Color management (ACES workflows preferred) Tracking, lens distortion, grain matching

Strong communication skills — able to translate creative direction into technical execution

Calm and solution-oriented under pressure

Strong eye for photorealism, detail, and consistency

Bonus: Experience or curiosity to study AI-assisted compositing workflows

Bonus: Experience in full CGI shots compositing look development
